Since our very first event took place at Layer Marney Tower, Colchester, in September 2017, we’ve helped dozens of brands increase their exposure with the help of some of the area’s most influential bloggers.
But one thing we often get asked is this: what inspired us to start the Club?
Where it all started
The idea initially came about when we – Voice Communications and Indy Consultancy – were discussing ways to boost a joint client’s PR campaign. We both realised that fabricating and reverse-engineering ‘stories’ online just wasn’t going to cut it. Audiences can see through fake news, and they’re bombarded with so much advertising that our marketing proposition needed to be really strong if we were going to set our client apart from their competitors.
We came to realise that there had to be a more effective way of helping brands form relationships that were actually going to benefit their business (not just provide them with a load of nonchalant short-term fans who were probably going to disengage after a few weeks).
Our thoughts turned to ways we could merge online and offline communications for more meaningful interactions. There’s no denying that the web is an amazing tool that allows businesses and bloggers to reach wider audiences than ever before – but we were united in the belief that there’s no substitute for a face-to-face conversation. Organising a real-life meeting is the best way to get the ball rolling, thrash out some ideas, and gain a better understanding of what each party has to offer. Plus, it’s a great way to gain important insights from other people who are passionate about what they do (and form some brilliant friendships in the process).
So, we thought, what about inviting writers and influencers to meet up-and-coming companies in a real-life setting, then encouraging them to organise their own collaborations based on what they can bring to the table for the businesses they meet?
We realised that there are plenty of blogger clubs in and around Essex and London – but none of them focus on the needs of growing businesses, and none of them offer valuable interactive experiences for bloggers who really want to immerse themselves in a brand. This is where the South East Bloggers Club could be different. This is how we could set ourselves apart.
What the future holds for the South East Bloggers Club
Over a year and a half later, and we are soon to launch our fourth brands and bloggers event in the South East of England. We’re managing a blogger list that’s growing by the day and we’re getting a consistent stream of enquiries from local organisations who have heard all about the benefits of brand/blogger collaborations and want to explore new and exciting ways of growing their fanbase in a totally natural and sustainable way.
The formula we have created REALLY works. We’ve experienced it first-hand, and we’ve received amazing feedback from all of the brands and collaborators we’ve worked with to date.
And what’s been the most satisfying thing for us is seeing fantastic partnerships being created between bloggers and brands who just get each other and who want to do their best to raise each other’s profile. We’re all in this together, and a little support can go such a long way.
